Currently, we are offering the
following simulations and role plays:
Check out our brand new Workplace Readiness Week curriculum here! Students experience a learning cycle that teaches them the history of workplace rights, applicable rights for young people in the workplace, and how to enforce their rights while on the job. California law AB 800 requires that all California high schools must teach 11th and 12th graders their workplace rights. Students receiving Work Permits from school must learn these rights as well.
The Homestead Strike: Set in the Gilded Age, students take on the roles of steel workers confronting issues brought about by new technology, ethnic tensions, and the struggle for fair wages and working conditions within one of the industrial monopolies of the time. Best for U.S. History and World History students.
The West Coast Longshore Strike: This Depression Era event asks students to imagine themselves as advisors to the Mayor of San Francisco in the midst of a strike halting domestic and international trade. Best for U.S. History and Economics students.
The Starcups Coffee Union Representation Election: In a community meeting, students prepare for a National Labor Relations Board election by discussing the benefits and challenges of being a union before a vote. Best for U.S. History, Principles of American Democracy, and Economics students. The simulation is available here as well.
Economics and Ethics- Orange Computers: An international corporation deals with ethical issues at home and abroad while trying to make a profit. Students advise the CEO on next steps for their company. Best for World History and Economics students.
The Collective Bargaining Simulation: We bring labor experts to coach students through a four hour experience for the first day. The second day is a class debrief of the experience and an extension lesson. Best for U.S. History, Principles of American Democracy, and Economics students. Check out the video at this link to see this simulation in action.
